- Audited safety systems and performance of main sites and business
units
- Identified immediately available administrative workers compensation
premium savings of over $300,000 to “fund” safety initiatives
- Proposed, and obtained board and executive sign-off, on safety plan
- Reduced number of safety advisers significantly
- Mandated ‘the” safety system
- Defined the roles and expectations of line managers and supervisors
- Provided education and role competency training for all personnel
(MD or his deputy opened and addressed every session)
- Prepared induction training videos for future use
- Refined the roles of retained safety advisers and supported the transition
- Conducted a safety climate and culture survey
- Used the results of the climate and culture survey to identify desired
behaviours and the change program to accomplish it
- Worked with corporate communications group to promote the change
program (Videos, slogans, stationery modifications, etc)
- Defined several key hazard control priorities and implemented them
